In each installment, a guest writer chooses one Pantone color they find particularly meaningful, intriguing, or just aesthetically beautiful—and tells us why.

Pantone’s choice of 15-0343 as 2017’s 'Color of the Year' seemed a bit odd and out of character at first, considering the pigment company typically selects off-the-wall hues of quite normal colors that will shake the design world for the following 12 months. Oftentimes, this color reflects the current zeitgeist, and so when we begin to dig deeper into Pantone 15-0343, Greenery, it makes quite a bit of sense for the creatives who survived 2016, and eagerly look to move forward and rebuild in the year upcoming. The color green has historically been recognized as a cue that motivates creative energy, and helps us to focus on mastering a task—facilitating growth while doing it. This year, find yourself on a walk in Central Park and notice how many shades of green your eye catches in a matter of seconds, or sip on 'The Last Word' and taste the green Chartreuse, live in the greenery that is natural in our day-to-day lives—and when you find something about it that delights you, do not deprive yourself of it.
